Food of the Month: Sparkling Water
One small choice is the beginning of a healthy diet.
In the sweltering summer, sparkling water is an excellent choice to enjoy a refreshing sensation while staying hydrated healthily.
However, typical carbonated drinks we often consume contain sugar, high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS), non-nutritive sweeteners, and artificial colors and flavors.
In particular, HFCS drastically spikes blood sugar levels and negatively impacts your metabolic system, so it must be avoided.
When choosing sparkling water for your health, please check the following criteria:
- Check for No Additives: Look at the ingredient list to ensure no sugar or artificial sweeteners (like aspartame or sucralose) have been added.
- Look for Natural Flavors: When choosing flavored products (like lemon or lime), check if they use 'natural flavors' rather than artificial ones.
- Choose Natural Sparkling Water: If possible, we recommend choosing mineral-rich natural sparkling water over purified water that has been artificially injected with carbon dioxide.
